Why do so many comedians think child abuse is funny? And why do people laugh at jokes about "beating your kids"? Or spousal abuse? Why is abuse of any kind considered good material for comedy?
I've heard comedians go on about why beating children is normal or good, and of course it's funny. Another woman I heard once talked about how she got annoyed with parents who considered themselves too good to hit their child in the throat when he or she was being too loud in public. And Jackie Gleason? "Right in the kisser" refers to punching his wife in the mouth. And people laugh. Russell Peters: "White people, please beat your kids." Because it's culturally acceptable to beat kids in some places, it's considered good parenting? Just because it's gone on for generations without anyone stopping it, it's supposed to be a funny joke?
I'm not laughing. It's not funny.
