Whale Rider is a gorgeous, beautiful film. I don't know how it's taken me this long to see it. Just amazing. I'm nearly speechless over it.

If the movie End of the Spear is to be believed, it looks like all Steve Saint, Jim Elliot, et al. did was get killed. Then their wives, female relatives, and children did all the work. And yet no one talks about THEM. Interesting. Patriarchy at work? Or Ellen's bitter paranoia? You decide.

Casanova was a poor film. Oliver Platt was the absolute best part. Love him.

Whale Rider is fantastic. It never says "boys are treated better than girls, RAR Feminism RAR!"

Instead all the little girl asks is "give me a chance to show you I can."

Cordy quote of the day:

Wesley: "It was then stained with the blood of seven young virgin women,"
Cordy: "Why do sacrifices always have to be women? I mean you can bet if any holy ceremony required part of the male anatomy to be sacrificed the world would be athiest (snaps fingers) like that."

I know, its paraphrased and not nearly as awesome as you can quote it. so blech.
